It serves as a flux for non-ferrous metals, a flux and component in ceramic glazes and enamel glazes, and an inhibitor of side fermentation in essential oil production. It is also used as a side fermentation inhibitor in alcohol production, as a welding flux in metal welding, and in the manufacture of optical lenses. Additionally, it is applied as a catalyst in organic synthesis and a raw material for synthetic cryolite, among other uses.
