MF:Na3AlF6
MW:209.94
EINECS:239-148-8
Mol File:159096-52-3mol Na3AlF6 is a white crystalline powder or a sandysize granularity, and a pinkish crystalline powder or a sandy-size granularity as well. Sp. Gr. 2.95_3.01g/cm3, melting point about 1000° C, specific heat 1.056j/g° C at 18_100° C. Na3AlF6's slightly soluble in water, but insoluble in anhydrous hydrogen fluoride. The content of its crystal water will be decreased while the increasing of the molecular ratio, therefore its loss on ignition will be also decreased while the increasing of the molecular ratio. After the paste of synthetic cryolite with different molecular ratio dehydrates, the loss on ignition at 800° C will appear 10.34%, 6.22% and 2.56% when the molecular ratio reaches 1.74, 2.14 and 2.63 reactively.
Na3AlF6 is also known as sodium hexafluoroaluminate or sodium aluminum fluoride. Its molecular formula is Na3AlF6, white fine crystal, odorless, solubility is larger than natural cryolite, specific gravity is 3, hardness is 2~3, melting point is 1009 degrees Celsius, easy to absorb water. Get wet. Na3AlF6 is mainly used as a flux for aluminum electrolysis, a wear-resistant filler for rubber and grinding wheels, an enamel whitening agent, a glass sunscreen and a metal flux, and an insecticide for crops. The Hall-Heroult method is a method in which a cryolite-based fluoride melt is used as a solvent to produce metal aluminum. To date, no other compound has been found to replace cryolite. This is because Na3AlF6 has other indispensable properties besides being able to dissolve alumina, such as elements that do not contain more positive electrical properties than aluminum, and are stable.
Good in nature, does not decompose under normal conditions, does not decompose, does not deliquesce, melting point is higher than aluminum, good conductivity, saving electricity, etc.
